Transfer WhatsApp chats, images and videos from old to new phone number in a jiffy, see simple steps

Changing phone number becomes a stressful task when you have to tell all your friends, relatives and office people about it. But when it comes to updating the number on WhatsApp, the first thing that comes to mind is what will happen to WhatsApp history now. Because there are many things including conversations with loved ones and documents which you do not want to lose. But the good thing is that you do not need to worry about it. Because WhatsApp gives its customers an in-built feature to transfer chat history to a new phone number, which includes account information, group chat and chat history. Thanks to this feature, anyone can easily transfer their chats to a new number. Let us tell you how…

If you are also changing your number and want to keep your WhatsApp account the same, but want to inform your contacts along with changing the number, then see the complete step-by-step process here:

How to change phone number on WhatsApp

Before starting the process, please note that this inbuilt feature works best if you have a single phone. However, if you are changing phones completely, you will need to create a local backup on your old phone.

step 1: Open WhatsApp on your old phone.

Step 2: Go to Settings. Now Android users, tap on the three vertical dots visible on the top right corner. For iPhone users, this setting is at the bottom right corner.

Step 3: Tap “Account” and then tap “Change Number.”

Step 4: Review the information on the screen. It states that changing your number will migrate your account details, chats and settings.

Step 5: Now tap “Next” and enter both your old and new phone numbers. Check again to make sure there is no mistake.

Step 6: Now choose how you want to notify your contacts. WhatsApp provides three options for this:

Step 7: All Contacts: Your address will be notified to everyone in the address.

Step 8: Contacts I’ve chatted with: Only people you’ve chatted with will be notified.

Step 9: Custom: You can manually select your preferred contacts to be notified.

Step 10: Tap “Done” to start the transfer processor.

Lost or stolen your phone? This is how you can track sitting at home

Meanwhile, if you’re changing both your phone and SIM card, you’ll need to create a local backup on your old device. See the easiest way here:

– Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.

– Tap “Chats” and then select “Chat Backup”.

– Select the frequency of backup. Here you can choose the option of daily, weekly or manual backup.

– Decide whether to include videos in the backup or not. (Note that including video may increase the size of the backup.)

– Tap “Back Up” to start the process. By doing this, your chats will be saved in your phone’s storage.

Steps to restore WhatsApp backup on new phone:

– Download and install WhatsApp on your new phone.

– Verify your new phone number during the setup process.

– Now when prompted, tap on “Restore” to get back your chat history from the local backup.

Additionally, you can first migrate your WhatsApp with your old phone number, and then, once WhatsApp is installed on your new phone, you can initiate the phone change settings by following the steps mentioned above.
